How we work

A manuscript starts with a clinical question and the data of the physician who treated the patient. Before any writing, we confirm that every patient has signed consent and, for studies, that an ethics committee has approved the protocol. Literature search, analysis and drafting follow. Every draft is read by at least one other group member before submission. We submit to the journal and respond to editors and reviewers; if the journal declines, the manuscript is revised and submitted elsewhere.

Authorship follows the four ICMJE criteria: substantial contribution to design, data or interpretation; drafting or critical revision; approval of the final version; and accountability for the work. Conflicts of interest and medical writing support are declared from the first draft. We follow COPE guidance, and every manuscript reports what the study found, whether or not it was expected.
